Blog We are changing silentblocks: is it worth installing polyurethane bushings?

When creaks and knocks in the suspension become constant, and not isolated, and at the same time the car's maneuverability deteriorates significantly, it becomes clear: it's time to change the suspension.

There are two main solutions: spare parts made of rubber or polyurethane. Reviews of consumables from these materials are different: from enthusiastic to critical. Rubber parts seem to be cheaper, and we seem to understand what to expect from them. Polyurethane parts are more reliable, but more expensive. If you are thinking about which parts to choose, let's see if it's worth installing polyurethane bushings?

Advantages of polyurethane bushings

Many note that recently they come across low-quality rubber that doesn't withstand loads. Polyurethane is much stronger in comparison with it. And our roads test the strength of all structural materials.

When it comes to high-quality polyurethane and a properly installed elastic element, you get a car with reliable and «responsive» handling. What other polyurethane bushings have advantages?

  •  Polyurethane withstands extreme conditions and lasts 4-5 times longer. Most foreign cars were built to drive on good trails, and the more adaptable cars have tires designed for a warranty period, so polyurethane is the best choice.
  • Polyurethane works stably in a wide temperature range from -40 to +70 degrees Celsius, so it's well suited to our climate. In our area, temperatures are over 35 degrees in summer, and drop below 20 in winter... If the polyurethane is of high quality, then it doesn't soften in the heat and doesn't harden in the cold. A rapidly aging rubber changes its properties with temperature changes.
  • Durable polyurethane retains its elastic properties much longer than rubber, so it protects the nodes from destruction. As the rubber ages, the driver gradually adapts to subtle changes in handling and does not notice how other parts of the suspension are also killed: shock absorbers, levers, etc.
  • Polyurethane parts are more expensive than rubber parts, but installing them helps save money on regular repairs. This refers to both the replacement of the bushings and bushings themselves, and less wear on the levers (see the previous point). And most importantly, the stable operation of polyurethane products means saved time and nerves.
  • Polyurethane as a polymer is more inert from a chemical point of view. This means that he is not afraid of the impact of aggressive substances: reagents on winter roads, solvents, lubricants of various nature and other petrochemicals.
  • This elastomer is resistant to abrasion, doesn't crack and retains its shape well. Therefore, the camber angles don't go away, and the tires wear out more slowly when using polyurethane suspensions.

All these properties of polyurethane, superior to those of rubber, provide a safer ride. After all, polyurethane is installed on professional racing cars for a reason.

But you don't have to be a racer. Experienced auto repairers recommend switching to polyurethane, and they know how to correctly install it so that it lasts a long time. If in other countries this is tuning in conditions of good roads, then for our realities it's a guarantee of stable operation of the car.

Polyurethane bushings from PoliPro

Another important reason: if you install polyurethane elastic elements of proven domestic production, you will support the Ukrainian manufacturer and make your small contribution to the country's economy. PoliPro is also a small town manufacturer that has become a reliable partner for major auto parts dealers.

So, weigh the pros and cons of polyurethane bushings, as well as the pros and cons of polyurethane stabilizer bushings, choose high quality spare parts and entrust their installation to good specialists. We are confident that you will never regret switching to polyurethane.
